1. Is Perlan worth visiting?
Perlan is a must-visit destination for those seeking a unique and memorable experience. It's one of Reykjavik's most recognizable landmarks with a nature exploratorium, ice cave, observation deck, planetarium, and more.
2. How long does a visit take?
The full exhibition experience takes 2-3 hours on average. We recommend adding another hour if you plan to dine at the revolving restaurant.
3. Is the ice cave real?
Yes – it's a man-made indoor ice cave built from real Icelandic snow from the mountains, showcasing features of natural ice caves. It is kept at freezing temperatures, so be sure to have a coat!
4. Do I need to book in advance?
We strongly recommend booking in advance here. Tickets can also be purchased on-site, but availability may be limited during peak times.
5. Can I see the northern lights at Perlan?
Yes, at Perlan, our Áróra - Northern Lights Show is a captivating experience that combines science and art to tell the story of the northern lights. It's a must-see while visiting. On clear sky nights, real aurora may be visible from the 360° observation deck with city views.
6. What is the volcano experience at Perlan?
The Volcano Show at Perlan offers an immersive experience of the 2021 Geldingadalir eruption near Reykjavík. Through vivid visuals and storytelling, visitors gain insight into Iceland's volcanic activity and its impact on the landscape.
7. Can I purchase a ticket for only the observation deck?
It is not possible to purchase only an Observation Deck ticket separately. However, it is included in our museum's Wonders of Iceland ticket.
8. How do I get to Perlan?
Perlan is easily accessible from Reykjavík city center:
- Walking: Approximately 20–30 minutes uphill.
- Public Bus: Routes 13 and 18 stop near Perlan; a short walk is required from the bus stop.
- Taxi: About a 5-minute drive from downtown.
- Hop-On Hop-Off Bus: Perlan is a designated stop on Reykjavík's sightseeing bus route.
Perlan also offers free parking for visitors.
